Mortal Kombat
Directed by Simon McQuoid- Hipster ZOMBIE1 de abril de 2025I love the Mortal Kombat video game series and the original film hold a special place in my heart. However, this 2021 remake tries really too hard to be dark and gritty and doesn’t know how to have fun. The film also suffers from spending waaaay too much time trying establish a new character, Cole Young, who is bland and doesn’t really do much for the story. Also, where is the tournament?!? The entire film builds up to the tournament only to make us wait for it in a sequel? The fight scenes are overall decent but in a world where we have movie like “The Raid” I expect more from a live action MK film. A lot more.
- Hakihikohace 3 dFlashy Fights, Thin Substance "Mortal Kombat" delivers exactly what you would expect on the surface: brutal fights, fan service, and a strong visual identity. It is entertaining in bursts, but it never fully comes together as a complete film. The performances are decent and committed, though the characters are not given enough depth to really stand out. They serve more as vehicles for the action than as fully developed figures. Visually, the film is its strongest aspect. The fight choreography is solid, with some sequences that are genuinely fun to watch. The effects and design stay true to the tone of the source material, and the overall style helps create an engaging atmosphere. The script, however, is quite weak. The pacing feels uneven, and the story mainly exists to connect one fight to another. There is little emotional weight, and the narrative never becomes truly compelling. That lack of substance is what holds it back the most. While the action works, everything around it feels underdeveloped. In the end, it is a fun but shallow experience. If you are looking for spectacle and action, it delivers, but as a complete film, it feels limited and somewhat forgettable.
- keithfrombm17 de mayo de 2026This movie sucked. Its original character sucked. It's direction sucked. Its story was worse than the OG. Why try to make something so simple, so complex? It's hard to believe that it got a sequel. But I haven't seen that one yet. However, it actually looks more entertaining than this thing was.
- Antonio28 de diciembre de 2025Always expect better than what we get when it comes to MK films. This one was ok. The cast is mostly good, but better choices can be made ;) The Scorpion/Sub-Zero storyline is great. Told the story well. Action, fighting, effects and everything associated with S/SZ was great. This should've just been a Scopion/SubZero film instead. MK felt a bit fast like it was all rushed. Some stuff was done very poorly, from acting, effects and overall scenes. Just eh. I still watch it from time to time so its not the worst, just my opinion
- turbob2412 de mayo de 2026Great movie! I was a little put off by how serious it starts and how quickly it shifts to goofyness. BUT, it works. Great fights, great effects, and a real story that pulls you to the sequel. The 90's film was great fun (the less said about annihilation the better). But this feels like a proper, made with love, start to a franchise. Bravo!
- Doc Worm10 de mayo de 2026More like mid-ass Kombat. Script is basic and the new OC main character is so boring. Supporting cast is actually super solid. Pacing issues in the middle. Honestly doesn’t matter a ton though because the the combat is what’s important and it’s pretty entertaining with decent choreography. They do AWESOME things with Sub Zeros ice abilities.
- Ray Hopkin10 de mayo de 2026This is a really fun time, I'm not gonna lie. It does exactly what I expect from a MK movie, except have the actual tournament, so here's hoping to that coming in the sequel. But I loved the whole setting the stage of the characters, ready for the tournament. The fights are brilliant, and the soundtrack rocks nearly as good as I remember the 1995 movie being. Now onto the sequel.
