I streamed it, I logged it and it felt like Ghostbusters got a neon lit remix with Chinese flair. Ji Mo sees monsters. That alone makes her an outlier in a world that pretends they don’t exist. But when she spots one in a supermarket and crosses paths with Meng, a seasoned monster hunter, things escalate fast, cue secret organizations, glowing weapons and a city crawling with creatures that hide in plain sight. This feels like Ghostbusters meets Men in Black, but with a distinctly Chinese twist. The monsters are stylized, the action is slick and the lore leans into ancient myth rather than Western paranormal tropes. It’s got drama, comedy and just enough emotional weight to keep it grounded, even when the CGI goes full chaos. The pacing is brisk, the cast is solid (Shawn Yue and Jessie Li carry it well) and the vibe? Urban fantasy with a splash of anime energy. It’s not trying to be deep, it’s trying to be fun. And it succeeds. Monster Run is a stylish, monster hunting romp that borrows the best bits from Ghostbusters and gives them a fresh, Eastern spin.
