I think it was the character design that just wasn't drawing me in. Weird looking hero with pointed ears and a villain with a whispery voice? I just didn't care. Had some good visuals though

Someone else compared this to JC and Valerian, but I think both of those are much better movies. Valerian being one of my favorites. This movie is Princess Dairies in space. Focused on a love story about a girl that is more special than she thinks. Very little comedy and the action is pretty weird. I personally don't care for the special effects all that much either. Call me a misogynist, but this movie is very mid.

Mila Kunis was once asked to explain the plot of this movie. She could not.

Absolutely one of the best scifi movies ever made. One of my personal favourites!

Not good. So much exposition and every plot hole is explained with an ex machina. My soul feels like it was just graped.

Sometimes movies get dogpiled when they don't deserve it. This is one of those times I believe. Jupiter Ascending isn't a terrible movie at all despite what the critics say. It's pacing is a bit off. It's simutaineously wildly rushed and overly long. The plot blows along without the development it needs, and it goes on and on. BUT, it's entirely enjoyable. Mila Kunis is top notch and Channing Tatum gives her a good counterpart. I wish this were a three part series of films, where each of the siblings would get an episode. They could have fleshed out the plot a bit. Anyways, I really like it a lot. Just like Valerian, and John Carter, it's a classic action sci-fi epic. Can't go wrong with this one, even if it is a bit long with a compressed plot.

Much better than I thought it would be based on the reviews.

This movie had wild potential: space dynasties, flying boots, reincarnated royalty and Eddie Redmayne whisper, screaming like he’s allergic to volume control. Mila Kunis plays Jupiter Jones, a janitor turned space empress, while Channing Tatum skates through the sky as a half-wolf soldier. It’s bonkers, bloated and bursting with lore, but it never quite lands. The Wachowskis built a massive universe, but crammed it into one film. Instead of letting the story breathe, they rushed through exposition, plot twists and bee based royalty detection. The cast tried, Kunis was charming, Tatum committed, Redmayne went full space opera, but the tone swung from melodrama to camp without warning. Studio interference didn’t help. Delays, re-edits, and a ballooning budget left the final cut feeling compromised. The marketing sold sleek action, but audiences got philosophical chaos. It flopped at the box office and any sequel plans vanished into the void. I streamed it, stayed for the chaos and still kind of liked it. It’s flawed, but ambitious, a beautiful mess that deserved more. Into the Plex library it goes, as a monument to missed opportunity.
