Where to Watch Hereditary
- Garrett Wilkinshace 3 dHereditary announces Ari Aster as a major filmmaking talent with one of the most effective horror films of the last decade. Toni Collette delivers one of the best performances I've ever seen in a horror film, while Alex Wolff and Milly Shapiro help make the Graham family feel painfully real long before the story descends into outright nightmare territory. Rather than relying on familiar genre formulas, Aster builds his story on grief, guilt, and family dysfunction, giving the supernatural elements far more weight when they eventually take center stage. The film remains deeply unsettling even during its quietest moments, and the confidence behind the camera is remarkable for a first-time feature director. What separates Hereditary from many modern horror films is how carefully everything is constructed. Aster doesn't rely on cheap tricks or constant jump scares and instead patiently builds tension and allows it to accumulate until it becomes almost unbearable. The film is packed with memorable moments, including one sequence that serves as a surprisingly persuasive reminder of the importance of safe car riding practices. The technical craftsmanship is exceptional, from its meticulous cinematography to its unsettling sound design. But none of it would matter without such a strong script underneath. Hereditary doesn't simply deliver powerful scares-it builds an entire tragedy around them. The ending won't work for everyone, but I found it to be a fitting payoff to one of the most effective horror films of the last decade.

I remember watching this from home and having the crap scared out of me during that *SPOILER* one scene with the mom floating on the ceiling. Not only does it excel in its scariness, but has excellent acting, writing, everything.

Given the brutality of these experiences and how they are captured, Ari Aster either turned his personal experience into a screen story, imagined such grievous trauma in his mind, or combined both truth and fiction. Hereditary is very often a hard watch, but it always feels honest.
- tellum18 de agosto de 2025I did not enjoy this as much as other horror fans, for me it was very plodding and the ending I didn’t care for. But there is some very disturbing imagery that is burned in my brain, and relatable realistic terror as well as supernatural terror. For bigger fans of the genre this is still a good movie.
- Evan May30 de julio de 2025Harrowing. The true terrors are in the first half. The second half tells a story to make sense of them. If only generational demons were so simple. The explanation is inexplicable. The result is multitonal, a partly comical fever dream dressed in visual discomfort. Yet the dread lingers past the runtime. Every scene holds attention. But the real artists were Steve Newburn and his team creating all those miniatures.
