Not the most brilliant movie of all time, but *SPOILER* I absolutely love the concept of the hospital changing around them, keeping them trapped forever. I have never seen a movie play on this concept before or since. There is something so frightening about closing a door behind you only to open it and the room on the other side is completely different than it was just a moment ago. It's a very particular type of fear that combines claustrophobia, the fear of being lost, and the fear of darkness, with supernatural psychological horror. For me, it was the skepticism of the main characters that helped me feel grounded in the plot. I would be just like them, refusing to admit anything supernatural is going on until it's completely undeniable. Personally, I think this movie is worth a watch if you are into horror films. I won't claim the production is anything to be excited about, but the execution still manages to make me unsettled all these years later.
- James Saenz17 de noviembre de 2025had me in the first half and slowly unraveled my engagement until the very last scene where it can be surmised as someone in the creative process saying “ah yes let’s use some elder futhark runes in this occult book as part of our generic-looking satanic ritual that makes a lot of sense it’ll get the audience going for sure.” it possesses an underlying sense of malaise and is at its best when it depicts the cloying anxiety of claustrophobia as the crew wanders the ever-increasingly antagonistic maze of a building. the way the physical space toys with them as it manipulates space and time is both so evil and clever, and those were my favorite parts of the film. the jump scares weren’t egregious, but the cgi is kind of whatever, and the backstory and narrative are kind of derivative. i can give it a pass on the scrambling of digital footage being a telltale sign of paranormal activity because it wasn’t overdone yet when this released. there are certainly far worse found footage paranormal films, and this is definitely something i would come back to with a friend who’s trying to get into the genre. it’s pretty solid for such an overdone premise.
- Biohazardous.11 de agosto de 2025It's not Ghost Adventures, it's Grave Encounters! For this episode, your host won't be Zack Bagans but Lance Preston, who's actor almost nails Zack's speaking patterns to a tee. Love this, not for being scary or good found footage, but for poking fun at one of my favorite childhood TV shows. If you have never seen Ghost Adventures, go look up the intro so that you can be in on the joke.
- ርልዪረ7 de marzo de 2025A lot of the camcorder/found-footage films I've seen have left a lot to be desired and mostly just had me hoping everyone would die as quickly as possible to get it over with, and I'm not the biggest fan of ghost-hunter style films either. So things weren't looking great! But my niece wanted to watch this, so I settled in ready to spend an hour and a half or so of not being scared, getting bored and praying for the inevitable deaths to come thick and fast but I was wrong. This is actually a pretty decent horror film with genuinely scary/jumpy parts and although very cliche of course, the premise of the ghost hunting crew going into the abandoned asylum looking for trouble works well and there are some good twists and creative ideas thrown in to keep it interesting and keep its head just above the parapet of being too similar to all the terrible similar films I've seen before. The descent into madness is believable and sometimes unsettling and I also found myself actually rooting for certain characters and hoping others wold kick the bucket, which is usually a good sign that the film is engaging enough to have you care one way or the other. Wonderfully horrible ending if a little rushed but I found myself wanting to watch the second one so if you like the genre I think you'll definitely like this film.
