Where to Watch Corten!
- Kevin Ward2 de julio de 2025Very strange experience watching this. For full context I watched the original One Cut of the Dead, but had turned it off before one of the first major plot turns, IYKYK. I only decided to give it another shot when I started reading everyone’s rave reviews about it and realizing that I had clearly turned it off before a significant event. I ended up loving that film. Now, as I was watching this remake, I again found myself not enjoying it. It felt sooo similar to One Cut of the Dead that it pretty much felt like a shot for shot remake….which always feels very hollow, in my opinion. The only thing that felt different was that everyone was speaking French instead of Japanese, yet all the characters still had Japanese sounding names and the location seemed to be Japan as well. Then the two plot turns happen and even though it still remains very faithful to the original, some of these elements I had issues with, fall again perfectly into place with the story. (I’m being intentionally vague, sorry). I found myself once again really coming around to liking the film. Extended one shots are always impressive to me, and that’s no different here, but these films (this and the original) seem to always leave me with a feeling of pure love of the filmmaking process. I prefer the original, but I would actually recommend watching both (original first, though).
