A Grounded, Tension-Filled Crime Thriller That Prioritizes Realism Over Flashy Action Facing El Chapo is a decent crime thriller that centers on a high-stakes mission: two cops tracking down El Chapo and successfully handing him over to the authorities. Throughout the runtime, the narrative focuses entirely on this grueling transport and handover process. While it isn't an extraordinary, high octane thriller packed with over-the-top action, it succeeds through its commitment to a realistic point of view. Crucially, the film avoids the cliché of stylish, bullet-dodging heroes; instead, you see the genuine fear etched on the cops' faces, deeply concerned for their own lives and the safety of their families. It feels raw and human. I'd give it a solid 6 out of 10. If you're a fan of realistic crime dramas, give it a watch!

★★★★★ 5/5 — Facing El Chapo I enjoyed Facing El Chapo from start to finish. What really stood out to me was the attention to detail and the constant tension surrounding who could actually be trusted. The movie did a great job showing the uncertainty between honest law enforcement and possible corruption without losing focus on the main story. I especially enjoyed the ending. Finding out that one of the undercover officers was actually staying at the very same motel where El Chapo was being detained was a great detail. Then seeing the Mexican Marines arrive with reinforcements and the Federal Police commander make it clear that his agency was responding and would confirm the delivery of El Chapo through the collaborative efforts of the Mexican Marines made the conclusion even more satisfying. The entire operation felt tense, calculated, and surprisingly grounded. It wasn’t just about capturing El Chapo—it showed the enormous responsibility of keeping him secured long enough to safely turn him over when you don’t necessarily know who around you can be trusted. Very well executed movie. It kept my attention the entire way through and delivered a strong ending. Definitely a 5-star watch for me.

An average, run-of-the-mill cartel movie. It gets pretty campy at times, but it’s not entirely bad. Fine for killing an hour and a half, but definitely not something you’ll remember afterward.
