The film also succeeds in giving the audience the unsettling tone and moral ambiguity that made "Death Note" so memorable. While some of the deeper psychological layers are naturally reduced compared to the manga and anime, "Death Note" (2006) remains a strong, enjoyable adaptation.

So even going into this knowing nothing about it, this was fantastic. Compelling story, compelling characters, and compelling psychology. This is well worth a watch even if you have no interest in the source material. But trust me, after you watch it, you will have intrest. Then you get to experience a chip eating action scene in the anime for the first time.
