- Shaydeknight14 de diciembre de 2025Cooties is a competent zombie-apocalypse horror thriller with a simple but effective hook: the infection only affects children. That conceit alone gives the film its identity and provides several unsettling moments, particularly during the outbreak sequences, which are staged with genuine tension and a level of gore that is appropriately disquieting. The film flirts with comedy more than it fully commits to it. There are a few genuinely funny moments, but the humour never goes as far as it could. This restraint is understandable given the subject matter (there are clear limits to how far one can push comedy when children are the monsters) but it nonetheless leaves the film feeling like it is holding something back. Elijah Wood delivers a surprisingly strong performance. He constructs a character arc that evolves gradually from hapless schmuck to a fundamentally decent, capable person, and the progression feels earned. Watching that change unfold, bit by bit, is oddly effective, even if it sits somewhat at odds with the film's pulpy premise. Rainn Wilson, Jack McBrayer, and the rest of the ensemble largely play two-dimensional archetypes. However, they are serviceable, and none of the performances actively detract from the film. The cast understands the tone, and everyone stays within it. Tonally, Cooties is dark, but not oppressively soo, and it's certainly tame when compared to more serious entries in the genre. It occupies an uncomfortable but intentional middle ground: gorier than a straightforward comedy, yet lighter than a full-blooded horror film. In the end, Cooties is an entertaining genre piece. It is funny, unsettling, and built around a clever premise, but it never quite pushes itself as far as it might have. A solid watch, though one that leaves the lingering sense that it could have been sharper, bolder, and more memorable.
- Biohazardous.3 de noviembre de 2025Personally, I really liked it. Some of the jokes aren't super funny and some of the plot points don't make sense but I liked the characters and the zombies. Wish they gave more time for the ending though. "The boat was evil but an acceptable level of evil" - my favorite line
