One man, one room, one existential crisis. Certified masterpiece.

Certified masterpiece, although also a bit of a time capsule. Melancholic, funny, and thought-provoking.

Such an insane thing to look back on. The world 5 years ago looked bleak and horrible but seeing this reminds me that for me atleast it was a simpler time and there is some nostalgia towards it. Crazy how good Bo is and what he can do. I mean just raw talent in the hands of a jester this guy

I rewatch this once or twice a year. While it was made during the backdrop of Covid, it has a lot of merit as a comedian going through an existential crisis because of the state of the world. If you know the context of the special, it will take you back to that time period, for better or for worse. However, if you don't have that context, this is the story of a person struggling with his mental health and struggling with making a musical comedy about making a musical comedy and how that meta-narrative parallels with the current events he critiques, which in my opinion, is a timeless subject.

This show will always be an amazing time capsule of what life was like in 2020. Trying to be funny while enduring incredible sadness and loneliness. It has to be seen right to the end to be truly appreciated.

I still think about this brilliant production by Bo Burnham. He turned a situation that we all were in together at the same time and turned it into an introspective peek into his delightfully twisted and genius sense of humor. After first seeing this when it came out on Netflix, I remember saying to my daughter, "If I were considering beginning a standup career, I'd just give up after watching this." lol

Marvelous piece of fantastic art. Sums up millennial trauma beautifully.

One of the most harrowingly honest films made about mental health. It can be categorized as a comedy special, but it is far more than that. Familiar elements remain—songs and moments reminiscent of his earlier work—but this is something deeper and far more unsettling. The film’s social criticism is paired with a level of self-awareness and hyper-critique that mirrors what many experience privately. Captured during a period when nearly everyone looked as harrowed and frayed as Burnham and felt as isolated and detached, it becomes a document of collective emotional collapse. This will likely be required viewing for future sociologists as part of introductory coursework on culture, anxiety, and mediated life. Brilliant, funny, and terrifying self-reflection.
