- Callumhace 3 d⭐⭐½ – Blasted – The temu Men in Black. Sometimes a movie knows exactly how ridiculous it is and simply decides to have fun with the idea. Blasted falls firmly into that category. The easiest way to describe it is The Hangover crossed with Men in Black. Take a group of friends, add plenty of questionable decisions, throw in an alien invasion, and then crank the absurdity dial until it threatens to snap off completely. The result is a sci-fi comedy that never takes itself remotely seriously. The story itself is fairly straightforward, but that's not really the point. The fun comes from watching increasingly bizarre situations unfold while the characters struggle to understand what on earth is happening around them. It leans heavily into its humour, and while not every joke lands, enough of them do to keep things entertaining. One thing I did find myself wondering throughout was how much of the experience depended on the translation. Watching dubbed or subtitled productions always raises that question in the back of my mind. Is the dialogue as funny in the original language? Are certain jokes or cultural references being lost, altered, or improved in translation? Unless you speak the source language, it's difficult to know. That said, all I can really judge is the version I watched, and the version I watched was a good time. Whether the dubbing is perfectly accurate or not, it never stopped me enjoying the movie. It's hardly high art, and nobody is going to mistake it for a science-fiction classic. But as a lightweight comedy with aliens, chaos, and more than a few ridiculous moments, it succeeds more often than it fails. 👽🍺 A six-pack shared during a UFO sighting — silly, unexpected, and considerably more fun than it has any right to be.
- jackmeat12 de septiembre de 2025My quick rating - 5.2/10. As long as you can get past the fairly silly dubbing, this is actually a fun movie. Is it a great movie? Not really. It is very inconsistent in quality, being sometimes really funny and other times way too involved in their inside jokes. Two old friends from back in their "competitive" laser tag days are reunited at a bachelor party. One of them has grown up and moved on from his childish ways, while the other one is still stuck in his youth glory fantasy world of being a champion. More or less your typical buddy formula for the comic relief needed. But things get turned when aliens invade and attempt to take over the world. The special effects throughout this are well done in being campy as heck, but totally on purpose. The fact that director Martin Sofiedal completely got what he should do and worked with the budget and not against it was part of what makes this "fun," as I mentioned. At no point did they take this one seriously, aside from when they tried to get that grow up or not message across. That is always par for the course of buddy comedies. If you are interested in something a bit different that is strictly there for laughs, I think you should give this one a whirl if for no other reason but get some originality and see what those Norwegians are up to.
