Where to Watch Billy Elliot (Quiero bailar)
- Callum6 de junio de 2026⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Billy Elliot – The film I was absolutely certain I was going to hate. This is one of those rare films that completely blindsided me. As a kid, my parents split up, and my new step-sister was heavily involved in dance. Suddenly weekends were full of jazz, tap, ballet, rehearsals, performances, and dance-related everything. To put it mildly, I hated it with an absolute passion. So imagine my excitement when English class announced we were going to study Billy Elliot — a movie about dancing. Wonderful. Exactly what I wanted. More dancing. Needless to say, I went into it expecting to endure the experience rather than enjoy it. Instead, I absolutely loved it. What surprised me most is that Billy Elliot isn't really about dancing. The dancing is important, but it's just one part of a much bigger story about family, expectations, identity, class, and finding something that makes you feel alive. It takes a subject I thought I had no interest in and wraps it inside a genuinely moving coming-of-age story. Over the years I've watched it multiple times, and it actually opened the door for me to enjoy other dance-focused films as well. The Step Up series, for example, is something I probably never would have given a chance without Billy Elliot proving me wrong first. The historical backdrop adds even more depth. What starts as a story about a boy wanting to dance becomes a window into working-class Britain during the miners' strikes of the 1980s. I found myself becoming interested in that period after watching the film and ended up doing my own reading on the history and events surrounding it. Not many movies can take a subject you think you don't care about and leave you wanting to learn more once the credits roll. And then there's Jamie Bell. This was unquestionably his breakout role, and it's still the performance I immediately think of when his name comes up. He's been in plenty of other projects since, but this remains the role that defined him for many people. I only give it five stars because the scale doesn't allow six. ☕ A strong cup of tea after a long day — warm, honest, comforting, and far deeper than it first appears.
