It is the long, ugly build-up: the daily abuse of Bok-nam, the island community’s casual cruelty, and Hae-won’s refusal to involve herself until it is far too late. The film works because it treats horror as accumulation. Bok-nam is not pushed over the edge by one incident alone, but by years of being used, ignored, humiliated, and trapped. Seo Young-hee’s performance keeps the character painfully human, even when the film moves into full revenge mode. Ji Sung-won’s Hae-won is equally important as the outsider and childhood friend who sees enough to act, but keeps choosing distance. What I found most disturbing is how ordinary the evil feels. There is no supernatural curse here. The island itself becomes the curse: small, isolated, and protected by everyone’s silence. When the violence finally erupts, it is cathartic but not triumphant. The film understands that revenge may answer rage, but it cannot restore what has been taken. A harsh, uncomfortable, memorable film. Not casual viewing, but very effective if you can handle its subject matter.

Hae-Won es una mujer de 30 años que trabaja en un banco de la ciudad de Seúl, llevando una vida muy ocupada. Hae-Won se dirigirá a Moodo, una pequeña isla donde vivía con sus abuelos de pequeña. Allí también vive una chica llamada Kim Bok-Nam, amiga de la infancia. Cuando llega a la isla, Hae-Won se sorprende de ver cómo todos tratan a Bok-Nam como a una esclava, la única mujer joven del lugar y el único juguete para los hombres de la isla. Maltrecha por todos los abusos, Bok-Nam ha intentado huir de la isla varias veces sin éxito, y ahora, pide a Hae-Won que la ayude a escapar de allí, aunque ésta prefiere no involucrarse en la difícil situación de su amiga.
