⭐⭐½ — About Cherry — “A drama that never quite commits to its own story.” “About Cherry” sits in that strange middle ground where it avoids the judgemental rage some films throw at the adult industry, but also sidesteps the honesty or empowerment that others manage to capture. Instead, it drifts — not offensive, not insightful, just… there. And that’s the core issue: it never seems fully sure what it wants to say. There’s an unrequited love subplot woven through it, but it’s handled so thinly that it barely registers. It’s meant to be emotional ballast, yet it comes across more as filler than feeling. And the film’s broader suggestion — that people simply fall into pornography or sex work like an unfortunate gust of wind blew them there — doesn’t ring true. It feels like a narrative shortcut rather than a real exploration of a complex industry, giving the whole film an oddly hollow centre. It’s not unwatchable, and there are moments of sincerity, but nothing sticks. It’s a drama that glances at big ideas without grasping any. Drink pairing: 🍷 A weak rosé — pretty enough at first glance, but ultimately thin and forgettable, fading quickly once the glass is empty.
