The Mummy
Directed by Alex KurtzmanWhere to Watch The Mummy
- Zokkiie15 February 2026It starts off kind of fun and creepy, and Sofia Boutella looks great as the mummy, but that vibe doesn’t last. The movie keeps rushing, joking, and blowing stuff up instead of letting anything feel scary. Tom Cruise is fine, but the story is thin and overloaded with franchise setup. By the end it just feels noisy, messy, and weirdly empty.
- SAID MTS30 January 2026Sofia Boutella is a standout as a genuinely menacing mummy, and the zero-gravity plane crash is a classic Cruise masterclass in practical stunts. However, the film struggles under the weight of its own ambition, leaving the audience with a "superhero origin" story for a hero they didn't quite ask for.
- flavo4324 December 2025The 2017 remake of The Mummy set out to launch Universal’s ambitious “Dark Universe,” and on paper it was an exciting idea—reviving classic monsters through a shared cinematic world. As a starting point, the film had potential: a strong cast, impressive production values, and a modern spin on a familiar property. However, its eagerness to establish a larger franchise ultimately overshadowed its own story. Instead of focusing on a tight, character‑driven narrative, the film front‑loads world‑building and introduces figures meant for future instalments, diluting the emotional and thematic core of the movie. A more restrained approach—using subtle Easter eggs or post‑credit teases—might have allowed the story to breathe and given audiences a stronger connection to its central characters. Despite flashes of fun and spectacle, The Mummy struggles to balance setup with storytelling, leaving a film that feels more like a prologue than a fully realised adventure.
