Excellent movie, real edge of your seat action. I was just a bit young to watch Sidney Portier movies but his acting in this one is fantastic. I can't believe he was in his early 60s when he made this rugged, physically demanding film! Tom Berenger does an outstanding job opposite him and a young Kirsty Alley holds her own as the only female character. I don't think Clancy Brown ever gets enough credit, he is always a good "bad guy". The movie opens and moves quickly, it's scary how uncaring these murderers can be. It goes from the Frisco city area, at night, very quickly up into the open, beautiful Pacific Northwest ending up in Canada. Absolutely fantastic cinematography. The escaped killer / jewel thief is unknown to us, the viewer, for almost the first half of the film, you see his movements through his eyes. Finally, to escape pursuit from Sidney Portier and federal agents and Tom Berrenger he next is seen as part of a group of men on an outdoor fishing and hiking adventure led by knowledgeable Kirsty Alley. Again, we don't know which of the men he is so we become part of the group. When he decides to start killing everyone but the guide, we are as surprised as they are. This is a real clever twist. The pace and action during this time are split between this outdoor adventure which turns deadly as he takes Kirsty captive., and Sidney and Tom struggling to keep up to get him and save her. Bad weather at one point doesn't help but the two men trudge on. It's interesting that Tom is a highly skilled mountain man who doesn't like Sidney because he's an office type government man who slows him down until Sidney saves Tom's life. It's from that point on that we begin to respect Sidney and his skills and knowledge which then take over Tom through the Canadian suburbs and city through the end of the movie. Oddly, there is quite a bit of humor in the movie between Tom and Sidney which keeps the tense struggles to survive and move forward from becoming too heavy and monotonous. Clancy is a scary, disgusting creature with no value for anyone yet he looks like a nice, clean cut guy. The endings fast pace continues onto a shuttle, transport boat through the boats levels as he tries to get away. I won't give the ending away but honestly felt it could go either way. Don't miss this well acted, top notch, suspenseful movie. It should get more stars.
