My quick rating - 5.3/10. Not the greatest reboot, but then again, they were working with material I really didn't think needed to come back. I was fine with the first one, even though it was more just a glamorized version of The Hills Have Eyes but this one was trotting down the same Appalachian path except dealing with cast out members of society. This group of kids finds more of a "cult" living away from civilization, awaiting the impending doom of the world. The movie still does look good, especially if you like forest scenes, and it does create a believable habitat they live in. When the hikers cross paths with the "Foundation," is when all turns south. The story here does a bit of a spin in putting the blame onto the kids and not the community they have stumbled upon. But doesn't this always happen when you are warned to stay on the path? The pacing is fine, and you will be hard pressed to realize that it is Matthew Modine. But at the end, I have seen much worse (the many sequels), but I have also mentioned far better. Either way, the "Wrong Turn" series was just a more fun look at this subject, where The Hills Have Eyes (Wes Craven) was far more raw and brutal, dealing with cannibals and savages.
