Czerwiec 1944 roku, właśnie ruszył tzw. drugi front w Europie. Lądujący na plaży Omaha w Normandii oddział Rangersów kapitana Millera zostaje zdziesiątkowany. Z ocalałych żołnierzy, Miller wybiera kilku do niebezpiecznej misji. Otrzymuje rozkaz przeniknięcia za linię frontu i odnalezienia szeregowca Jamesa Ryan'a, jednego z tysięcy spadochroniarzy zrzuconych w noc poprzedzającą lądowanie aliantów na tyłach niemieckiej obrony. Dowództwo traktuje akcję prestiżowo. Trzej bracia Ryana, zginęli w walce i nie można dopuścić, aby matka straciła ostatniego syna. Miller ma odnaleźć i uratować Ryana nawet za cenę śmierci swoich ludzi...

The storming of Omaha beach sequence is simply one of the greatest technical achievements in film. Kaminski’s cinematography combined with immersive sound design result in an absolutely visceral viewing experience. I remember watching this in the theater on opening weekend and being completely out of breath once those first 25 or 30 minutes are up.
It had been quite a while since I’d actually watched this, but it definitely still holds up. I would love to see Spielberg tackle something like this again.
