Princess Mononoke
In seguito allo scontro con un animale posseduto da un demone il principe Ashitaka viene contaminato da una maledizione mortale. Si mette dunque in viaggio per scoprirne l'origine e chiedere una cura al grande Dio Bestia, l'unico in grado di guarirlo. Arrivato nelle regioni da cui proveniva la bestia scopre una guerra tra uomini e una forma primitiva di animali della foresta, giganti, senzienti e aiutati da quella che chiamano la Principessa Spettro, una ragazza cresciuta dai lupi che ha rinnegato gli uomini. Dall'altra parte gli uomini, capitanati da Lady Eboshi che gestisce con amore, giustizia e pietà il suo villaggio di fabbri, vogliono lavorare la montagna e abbattere gli alberi per poter estrarre il ferro (fonte di ricchezza). In mezzo un gruppo di monaci cerca di fomentare gli uomini ad uccidere il Dio Bestia e rubarne la testa perchè, si dice, fornisca l'eterna giovinezza.

Princess Mononoke feels like Studio Ghibli took Fernfully and elevated to epic heights. It's the tale of mans struggle to accept forces outside it's control.
In typical fashion, the styling is beautiful and the characters are very well realised. Lady Eboshi is a standout for me as the charismatic leader of the ironworks who decides to take on a literal god, pretty badass behaviour.
While not my favourite Studio Ghibli film, Princess Mononoke aims high and does a damn good job of tackling a complicated theme. For some reason I struggled to articulate my throughts on this one.
