Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.

Conversational drama exploring the sunset of life and what it means to come to the end on your own terms. I haven’t seen many Almodóvar films, but each has left me wishing the film would go on three more hours. That’s meant to be both complimentary, but also a criticism. Love the warmth and the relationships on display, but also feel like I never quite get a complete arc with his characters. Loved both Tilda and Julianne in this. Wonderfully acted and probably deserving of more accolades than it will ultimately receive. Have been dealing with a lot of death this year, which has obviously made me ponder my own mortality in a way that I never have before. This certainly conversationally explores a lot about legacy, family and quality of life that is endlessly thought provoking.
