ニューヨークで暮らす失業中のラリーは前妻がが再婚すると知り動揺する。愛する息子ニッキーとのきずなを保つために、ラリーは自然史博物館の深夜勤務の夜警員の仕事を引き受け、真夜中に警備を始める。ある夜、展示物が魔法を使ったように生き返り、ローマのグラディエーターやカウボーイたちがジオラマから飛び出して戦いを始める。
