Jack Carter is a small-time hood working in London. When word reaches him of his brother's death, he travels to Newcastle to attend the funeral. Refusing to accept the police report of suicide, Carter seeks out his brother’s friends and acquaintances to learn who murdered his sibling and why.

"Get Carter" was co-produced by Michael Caine, allowing him to take on the role of an anti-hero devoid of any likable qualities—and he excels in this portrayal. In fact, none of the characters in the film are particularly likable or good. The film's realistic depiction of violence is further intensified by its dark, atmospheric setting, drawing the audience into the film's world and enhancing its overall impact.
