Milo (Seth Green) tem nove anos de idade e só descobre o verdadeiro valor da mãe (Joan Cusack) quando ela é raptada por marcianos que planejam roubar sua sabedoria para beneficiar seus respectivos filhos. O menino não está disposto a entregar os pontos e parte numa aventura épica para salvá-la das mãos do inimigo, nem que para isso tenha que se aliar a uma raça alienígena e uma rebelde marciana, Ki (Elisabeth Harnois).
