Shazam is a fun and family friendly venture into the superhero genre. The kind of film a grandmother could watch on Christmas and follow.
Shazam is many things, a dark, gritty and thought provoking movie is not one of them. What is actually is, a wholesome, light hearted and family friendly take on the genre. Theres no need to do any movie homework here, you can just put it on and enjoy it.
The story is pretty flimsy and the characters pretty 2 dimensional, no new ground is broken but honestly it doesn't really do anything wrong either. I would rate it higher, but honestly the humour only worked for me once and I find the character of Shazam kind of annoying (I appreciate that is intentional).
The audio and visuals are all fine. Some questionable CGI at times, but honestly never enough to pull you out of the film. The $100M budget was well utilized here.
