A retired Irish paramilitary witnesses the fatal shooting of his pregnant wife by an SAS officer. After outwitting the SAS, now wounded, and presumed dead, he escapes, taking his revenge to the dark and paranoid streets of 1970's London.
An IRA solder, Michael, on the run from British Authorities watches as his pregnant wife gets tragically caught in the cross fire. Presumed dead he escapes and joins an active service unit hell-bent on terrorizing London, but is determined to take vengeance on his wife’s killer. Tempest, the office who pulled the trigger, is facing potential jail for the killing of an innocent victim, but is essentially offered a clean slate to join a covert counter-terrorist operation combatting the IRA’s activities in London.
This opening setup is incredibly compelling. Similar to Infernal Affairs/The Departed, we have two men working covertly to take the other man down. From the outset it feels like we’re ultimately on a collision course for these two to face off. And we are. However, Dead Shot isn’t nearly as captivating as those aforementioned films. Though 1970’s London could be an incredible setting for a story like this, it’s filmed in a rather drab and uninteresting fashion.  Above all else, I just didn’t feel any of the tension that this story line deserved. It’s a decent title to stream at home. I love Felicity Jones and haven’t seen her in many projects of late, so it’s at the very least nice to see her on screen again.
