Some classic 90s Tim Allen gruffness. Cast is great all around as distillations of classic Star Trek cast members. Tony Schalub is a goofy dork Scotty, Sam Rockwell plays a great red shirt, Sigourney Weaver is beautiful and funny Uhura, and Alan Rickman plays a hilarious take on Spock and also himself. And also a young Justin Long to boot as a superfan nerd!
Writing is tight, humor is charming, and visuals for 1999 are pretty dang good! I might have some bias for seeing this as a 10 year old, but I find the overall feel of these 90s comedies to be a cut above what's coming out these days. Nothing game changing here, but it's hard not to leave with a smile on your face.
