Chernobyl
本作は、歴史上最悪の人災を衝撃的かつ感情を揺さぶる物語として描き出す、ＨＢＯ製作の全５話のミニシリーズドラマだ。1986年、旧ソビエト連邦のチェルノブイリ原子力発電所で大規模な爆発事故が発生。放射性物質がベラルーシ、ロシア、ウクライナばかりか、スカンディナビアや西ヨーロッパまで飛散した。深夜の爆発は大混乱をもたらし、その後は何日も、何週も、何ヵ月もの間、人命が失われ続ける。「チェルノブイリ―CHERNOBYL―」は、人間の勇気を描くと同時に、事故の原因や責任追及をやりすごそうとする政府の極めて非人道的な慣行と、災害の危険性を軽視したことから多くの命が犠牲になったことを明らかにする。ジャレッド・ハリス、ステラン・スカルスガルド、エミリー・ワトソンら、豪華キャストの共演も見どころの１つだ。

Chernobyl sometimes plays up the tragedy of the disaster a bit too much, but other than that, it manages to create the best possible treatment of the case. The series authentically and meticulously processes all the threads and defining figures of the tragedy, while at the same time shaping it into a captivating, horrifying moving image experience instead of a dry chronicle. This would claim a place among the best of the year even if this effect did not last in the remaining two episodes.
