Red Sonja

I first saw this one on TV and it’s pure mid 80's sword and sorcery pulp.
Brigitte Nielsen is Red Sonja, wielding her magic sword against tyrant Gedren, who’s after a talisman of ultimate power.
Arnold Schwarzenegger shows up in a supporting role, basically playing Conan in all but name, adding muscle to the camp.
On TV, the film’s fantasy world felt both cheap and charming, matte backdrops, rubbery monsters and dialogue that could have come straight from a comic panel.
The pacing is brisk, the runtime short and the whole thing knows it’s more cult curiosity than epic masterpiece.
Compared to Conan the Barbarian, this is lighter, campier fare, but that’s exactly why it works as a nostalgic TV watch. It’s the kind of film you stumble across late at night and stick with for the sheer pulp fun.
