👨🏻🎵ɪᴛ’ꜱ ᴀ ᴋɪɴᴅ ᴏꜰ ᴍᴀɢɪᴄ🎹🎤 A foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet! This film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, cementing the legacy of a band that was always more like a family, and who continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day. First of all, Rami Malek deserved that Oscar! From the surprising physical similarity with Freddie Mercury to every tiny little detail of how he moved, talked or sang, Rami Malek nails his role! His presence on stage extraordinarily resembles Freddie's, and his attitude is incredibly alike. As expected, he carries the entire film on his shoulders, but he does receive help from an amazing cast, who provide undeniable chemistry which delivers some great moments. Gwilym Lee as Brian May, Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor and Joseph Mazzello as John Deacon complete the band, and Queen are born! As a point of reference, I am a huge Queen fan! It was Queen who first introduced me to rock music. Much like the iconic song this film is named after, it embodies something very intense, which is Freddie Mercury's personality and life. Picking your favourite Queen song is like trying to pick who your favourite family member is… But for me, without a doubt it has to be Bohemian Rhapsody! What truly makes that song so great is that it embodies what every musical piece should be: the talent and the drive to push boundaries and create something that brings us together, even 48 years later. In a time where pop songs just all generally sound the same, maybe that's why we still can't stop listening to songs like Bohemian Rhapsody! With just this one song, Freddie Mercury and Queen became something that very few artists managed to achieve: a legend. The build-up for one of the biggest shows of all-time (if not, THE one) is remarkably well-executed and those final 15-20 minutes of the film are chill-inducing. This is one of those rare films that genuinely took a bit of my heart with it…
