A political thriller about Laine Hanson, a Senator who is nominated to become Vice President following the death of the previous office holder. During the confirmation process, Laine is the victim of a vicious attack on her personal life in which stories of sexual deviancy are spread. She is torn as to whether she should fight back, or stick to her high principles and refuse to comment on the allegations.

Joan Allen, Jeff Bridges, (a deliciously despicable) Gary Oldman, and, hell...even Christian Slater give great performances. I think this film has aged very well, and it's a shame (and perhaps embarrassment) that some of the issues addressed in this film are still relevant, if not worse, than in 2000. I guess politics never changes, it just keep getting worse until that society implodes and starts the cycle again from the ashes of revolution....but that was before TikTok 🤣😂 #boomer
