En deling nye rekrutter oplever deres oplæring som ren tortur. Især den tunge Pyle har det svært med den sadistiske sergent Hartman, som har et ondt øje til ham. Da de unge soldater endelig kommer til Vietnam, oplever de for alvor krigens gru og længes tilbage til deres læretid. Men kun få af dem vender tilbage.

It was AMAZING! It teaches me a lot about what they were like in war. I am actually learning about it right now in school and this movie helped me get an A+ on my science paper! Thank you so much to everyone who made this movie it really helped me out in school and in life. It was a great plot twist when the "fat guy" was getting punished in really terrible ways and then killed there captain and then killed himself wow I thought he would just be happy that he learned how to move his gun but I was wrong....... I am not gonna spoil anymore so if you see this before the movie...........................................
GO WATCH IT IT'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!
