Five years post-Jurassic World: Dominion (2022), an expedition braves isolated equatorial regions to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough.
I’ve been seeing a lot of mid or bad reviews, and I’m not saying it’s a perfect movie, but so many criticisms I’ve seen prepared me for a solid but not great movie, and I was surprised that I disagree with a lot of those takes. I thought it was really really good. The plot and characters could have been better, I wish we got more on the backstories, and it was kinda predictable, but those barely take away from the absolute banger that is this movie. It feels like a better Jurassic park 3, and that’s coming from a fan of that movie. This had plenty of great great sequences, and brought back a lot of the classic feels, the sense of wonder on some scenes perfectly balanced out the terror. It was never gonna be the first one, but boy is it fun. And we can all agree it’s a step in the right direction for the franchise after dominion. Gareth Edwards did a really good job at showing dinosaurs how they are supposed to be shown, beautiful, mysterious, and terrifying. I think this movie works if you’re a non-fan of the franchise, a fan of the franchise, and a fan of the original books. I noticed multiple callbacks and references to the earlier movies and the book, that only people who’ve read it will get. Overall, I thought it was a blast, the Rebirth we needed for these movies, and gives me hope for the future, because you know they’ll make more (money). 9/10
