The magic of this movie is injured only by the lack of Michael Cera to create chemistry with an otherwise solid cast of misfits and searchers. On his own, he shines, but not aside how brightly everyone else connects. A few moments of lacking connection, though, don’t dim the excellent dance between soundtrack and heartache that drives the plot so perfectly through a night out in the city that takes every turn and u-turn possible. Especially magical is the absolute mess of a best friend, Caroline, played by Ari Graynor. She brings an especially cringy humor in her side quests and conquests alike, somehow pivoting perfectly with the story just when we need it.
