When everyone bar DeVito phones in their performance, you have an uphill struggle. Couple that with decidedly average CGI and the odd decision to make the focus of the story the supporting cast, rather than the original star, and you have a pretty poor premise on your hands. It flaps around aimlessly, hoping, I presume, that the cuteness of Dumbo overloads and overrides… it doesn’t. Devoid of humour and heart, forced and directionless, a real disappointment.
