The Scorch Trials is a decent follow-up to the first Maze Runner, though it’s definitely the weakest of the trilogy. It’s not a bad movie by any means—it has some great moments and a few intense sequences—but overall, it feels a little all over the place. The story jumps around a lot, and sometimes it’s hard to stay fully invested in what’s happening or why. There are parts where you just wish you could check back in with other characters, especially Newt and the rest of the group.
That said, the film still has plenty of good things going for it. Dylan O’Brien once again delivers a solid performance as Thomas, and the rest of the cast continues to bring strong energy to their roles. There are some surprising moments that stand out and keep the movie from ever feeling boring.
It’s not as tight or well put together as the first or third film, but it works fine as a second chapter. The true villains in this one are especially easy to dislike, which adds some good tension, and the ending sets up the next movie nicely.
Overall, The Scorch Trials is an okay film—flawed, uneven, but still entertaining enough to keep you watching. It’s not great, but it’s good enough for what it’s trying to be.
