Humans on spaceship named "Tantra" are exploring the unknown part of the Universe. The spaceship gets trapped by the mysterious Iron Star. The Iron Star's powerful force of gravity is to hold the spaceship for 20 years. The humans are facing a very tough survival challenge... Based on famous novel by Ivan Efremov.
I'm giving it 2.5 stars. I got the DVD from Amazon, it was cheap and I was hoping for a dubbed movie. But it is subtitled instead.
It was interesting to see what Soviets or Russians do with a movie. Structuraly speaking, the film flips from Earth to Deep Space, back and forth through out the film. Until I learned the characters, it was a bit hard to follow. What was interesting was how the characters talked and how everything was portrayed. Everyone is some high powered goverment official of one type or another, and they all "work" while gazing out over vast scenic vista's. The breeze is always blowing, their clothes are always clean and stark white. Apparently Aliens are all nude female dancers in silhouette. Com systems are huge video phones, no one eats and all idle time is spent swimming or jumping on a trampoline. Like I said, it's interesting. The story is crap and special effects are beyond embarrassing. But every one in the film is so serious and perfect. It's worth a clinical watch from an amatuer film student perspective, but it's not great entertainment for your beer buddies. I don't regret watching it alone, but I'll never watch it again.
