One of the best films of the year. The first act is perfect, and Sean Penn’s performance is both creepy and incredible throughout. I can’t wait to see it again.
All of Guillermo del Toro’s films explore the humanity in monsters and the monsters in humanity - Frankenstein is no different. He’s firmly in his element here, and his love for the source material shows. Terrific performances from the entire cast.
Fun take on the man of steel from someone who clearly understands the character. The film felt rushed at times but overall a very promising start DC's new cinematic universe.
Superman
F1: The Movie
Fun summer movie. Exactly what you’d expect, but still a good time.
F1: The Movie
A Minecraft Movie
I walked in with zero expectations on opening weekend and was pleasantly surprised. The film never takes itself too seriously and knows exactly what it’s target audience is looking for. My kids loved it and I had a good time.
This film had the potential to be a worthy successor to The Winter Soldier, but it ultimately fails due to the choices of its director, Julius Onah. The film’s visual style feels overly drab for a Captain America movie, with a muted color palette that makes many scenes dull and uninteresting. Onah stated in interviews that they intentionally downplayed the color red, saving it for the Red Hulk reveal. Unfortunately this decision backfired, leaving much of the film looking washed out and boring. The one element that worked, building suspense around the Red Hulk, was spoiled by the film’s trailers and promotional material. Saving that for the release could have redeemed an otherwise predictable movie.
