Not scary, just offensively bad.
truly an awful movie. even apart from the graphic r4pe scenes that were filmed using 15/16 year old actresses, the acting & dialogue is just *abysmal*. so many plot holes and it ends up solely relying on shock value to leave any lasting impact. the main reason that it has any semblance of success is because it’s often shared around by young teenagers who discover it on the “disturbing movie iceberg”. wish i could get that hour and a half back.
I was blown away with Bana’s performance as Mark Chopper Read. It’s immediately easy to forget that Bana doesn’t quite look like the real life Chopper because his portrayal is just uncanny. He was able to capture his personality, twisted humor, mannerisms and chilling darkness incredibly well. It’s unsurprising that Read himself suggested Bana for the role after seeing him on a sketch comedy show and that Bana spent several days with Read and extensively interviewed people who had known him to prepare for the part. Bana plays quite the convincing villain.
