Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler are striking out on their own, and relocating for a new adventure. Their ward, Carter, is along for the ride, and – despite serious distractions – Beth and Rip work hard to ensure he becomes the man he’s meant to be. Just after the events of the Yellowstone series finale, follow Beth and Rip as they take on a 7,000-acre ranch in South Texas. Even with all of its beautiful landscapes and peaceful lifestyle, the pair run into hiccups trying to survive in the area, including a ruthless rival ranch run by a wealthy owner.

Dutton Ranch takes little time in establishing itself as the one true heir to Yellowstone. Others have tried and with middling success managed to capture the intriguing storytelling and gripping drama that Yellowstone provided for its 5-season run. With Beth and Rip at the heart, a lot of the Yellowstone spirit carries on. But it’s not just a couple of very familiar characters that carry the water this time. Unlike Marshals in its first season, Dutton Ranch builds its own brand of western style drama and adventure. New characters feel strong, everything feels like it’s all in the right place and never feels overly reliant on nostalgia. While Marshals isn’t a failure of a franchise, at least after its first “just okay” season (my opinion), Dutton Ranch feels like a classic that carries on the Yellowstone tradition with little, if any, missteps. Season 1 is immediately begging for a second season and it only just finished airing.
