William Tanner is very misled about one thing--the remarks he makes to Sergeants Friday and Jacob's sound like he hardly makes any mistakes at all. Everybody is a sinner and all have strayed. Tanner is no virtuous choir boy. He commits two murders and his justification for Adelle Pryor:'s murder is she "had to pay for sins."
For the older victim, Tanner claimed she was sick half the time and alone. So he figures he did her a favor like a "mercy killing"
After hearing quite enough of his "sin talk," sergeant Friday lays it on the line recommending Tanner should look at the Bible again and see himself more clearly. There's hardly any sin worse than murder.
