It looked hust like a V/H/S tape. Good segments too,especially the last one,arms coming out the walls and shit....😦😲😆

- KGM SOSA22. prosince 2025V/H/S is the first entry in the franchise & honestly it’s fantastic. I love the found-footage anthology concept, especially how all the segments are loosely connected through the central framing story. I’d only ever seen bits & pieces of this film over the years (despite having watched 1 of the later entries), so finally sitting down & watching it properly was a great experience. Even though I really liked it, I surprisingly don’t have that much to say, Sometimes a movie is just fun & that’s enough. The tapes feel raw & grimy, This sells the whole “this is real footage you were never meant to see” gimmick really well. The shorts are campy & cheesy but it’s still fun, making the whole experience a blast. That said, I do think the glitching & camera shakiness could’ve been toned down just a little; it’s effective & necessary, but at times it feels like an overused shortcut to hide difficult things to create visual effects for, as well as artificially build tension. The framing story, titled ‘Tape 56’ follows a group of morally bankrupt guys who record egregious acts on camera & sell the tapes anonymously. Not murder, more vandalism, harassment & general scumbag behaviour. They’re hired to break into a house & steal a specific tape, which then leads into the rest of the segments. The first tape, ‘Amateur Night’ is easily the most infamous. Even if you haven’t seen V/H/S, you’ve probably seen images of the creature. It follows a group of guys on a bachelor night who attempt to secretly film an amateur porno with girls they pick up at a club. One of the women turns out to be a demonic succubus, the segment is so iconic it spawned a full length spin-off, Siren (which I still need to watch). The second segment, ‘Second Honeymoon’ is a solid slow burn with a strong twist. It focuses on a married couple documenting their honeymoon road trip across the country, including locations like the Grand Canyon. The horror leans into home-invasion territory, saying any more would ruin it. The third segment, “Tuesday the 17th,” follows a group heading into a remote forest for a camping trip. One of their friends is clearly hiding something about why they’re there. This short is a clear homage to 80s slasher films, specifically ‘Friday the 13th’, which is obvious both in the title & the execution. The fourth segment, ‘The Sick Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger’ is told entirely through online video chats between a long-distance couple investigating strange happenings in her apartment. It’s minimalist, creepy & best experienced completely blind. The final segment, ‘10/31/98’ is one of the most visually striking entries, second only to ‘Amateur Night’. It follows four friends on Halloween who attempt to go to a party but end up at the wrong house. Thinking they’re early, they enter & assume what they’re experiencing is part of a haunted house attraction. They are very, very wrong. If I had to rank them, it’d be tough but the clear standouts are ‘Amateur Night’ & ‘10/31/98.’ The rest are fairly even, the framing story comes in last as “not bad”, just functional, mainly serving to tie the tapes together. Overall, V/H/S is dirty, creative & wildly entertaining. It absolutely earns its reputation as a cult found-footage classic.

- tellum18. srpna 2025Anthology movies are hard sells, and so are horror movies for that matter, but this does both very well. If you don’t like at least a couple of the stories then you aren’t a horror fan and shouldn’t be watching anyway.
