Režie: Robert HarmonJedné deštivé noci zastaví mladík Jim Halsey stopaři Johnu Ryderovi, aby mu únavná cesta po texaské dálnici rychleji ubíhala. Jenže muž s ledově modrýma očima stopoval z úplně jiného důvodu, než je cesta do San Diega. Jen co dosedne, vytáhne z kapsy vystřelovací nůž, kterým právě zabil nějakého neznámého muže. Jimovi je okamžitě jasné, že tentokrát je na řadě on, ale stopař ho opět překvapí. Místo aby bodl, začne ho prosit, aby ho zabil a tím zabránil dalšímu krveprolití. Vyděšený mladík vyhodí stopaře z auta a co nejrychleji od něj odjíždí. Po několika kilometrech jízdy si zhluboka oddechne a snaží se na celý incident rychle zapomenout. Tím však mladíkova noční můra zdaleka nekončí. Zanedlouho ho totiž začne předjíždět rodinné auto, z něhož mu zamává opět John.

You really feel the victim's madness and it excuses any poor decision making. Really enjoyed it so it has held up well over the decades.
- Richard5. října 2025Caught it on a movie channel back in the day and damn, Rutger Hauer (RIP) nailed it. Years later, I grabbed the DVD just to have it in the collection and it still hits. I didn’t know much going in back then, just that it was some kind of road thriller. But once Rutger Hauer shows up as John Ryder, it’s game over. He’s calm, creepy, and completely unpredictable. No backstory, no motive, just this quiet psycho who turns a simple ride into a nightmare. And the way he plays it? Chilling. He doesn’t shout, doesn’t rant,he just exists, like a force of nature. You can’t look away. Thomas Howell does fine as the kid caught in the mess, but let’s be honest, this is Hauer’s movie. Every time he’s on screen, the tension spikes. You never know what he’s going to do next, and that’s what makes it work. Forget the remake. This is the one. Rutger Hauer didn’t just play a villain, he became one of the most unnerving characters I’ve ever seen. No gimmicks, no flash, just pure menace.
