- Rob Logan | The Geek Generation17. března 2025This movie's getting a lot of hate because the budget is ridiculous, but I'm not interested in reviewing it based on its budget, just the final movie. Is it a fantastic movie? No. Is it a horrible movie? Also no. While it hits on a lot of obvious themes and does have some nice world-building, it also has a few things holding it back. The themes are explored mostly through dialogue, but just because the characters say something about their experiences doesn't mean it has weight. In other words, a lot more telling than showing. Two, there was a lot of potential for some memorable, wacky side characters to exist with their own mini-arcs, but instead they're all pretty forgettable. Lastly, it's incredibly predictable because almost every plot development is telegraphed way in advance. Even with all the negatives, it's a perfectly middle-of-the-road adventure with a coherent plot, a main character that has a motivation to move toward, and antagonists that make that journey challenging.

Unfortunately Whoever watch and bash it didn't not just watch the movie just for entertainment, they were looking for something more than what this movie was about. I remember the same thing happen with the Matrix came out in 1999. Some people did not understand the movie at first watch. Then, they started making up crap about what it was about besides what they actuallh saw. Sometimes, they should just watch a movie and let it be that. Stop looking for meanings in the movie, just watch and enjoy 😉.
- Hipster ZOMBIE15. března 2025“The Electric State” is 90s fueled retro tech dystopian road trip buddy film for a Tik-Tok viewing tween audience. The film really wants to make a statement about society’s obesession with technology but dumbs down the message with overly CGI-ed characters, random actor cameos, and an odd pairing of its two leads, Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown. One of the best things about the film however is its production design. The film successfully captures a retro-futuristic aesthetic. Its world-building presents an intriguing alternative 1990s where a past war between humans and robots has left society in a state of disarray. As mentioned before, the cast, despite being a very impressive assembly, fail to stand out. Millie Bobby Brown often times comes across as wooden and unconvincing and Chris Pratt’s character feels like a hollow version of Star Lord from his “Guardians of the Galaxy” films. The films antagonists played by Giancarlo Esposito and Stanley Tucci both feel like after thoughts and add little to the film. Overall, for a kiddie tween movie it serves its purpose and is watchable. But from a more critical observation it’s a CGI stuffed forgettable film. I expected more from the Russo brothers, the team behind “Avengers Infinity War” and “Avengers Endgame.”
