- "THE MOVIE FANATIC"14. května 2026A lifeless sequel that has no emotional punch and no depth whatsoever, that its predecessor did brilliantly and was one of that original films biggest strengths!! I will say that the core concept is still there and is solid in terms of how each & every choice you make in and from each & every timeline still has dire consequences & ripple effects somewhere, which the original film did masterfully. That's literally the only moderately good thing, that I can say about this sequel because everything else around it is very poor to put it nicely. Ultimately what really holds this sequel back is the very weak character developments; including our lead Nick Larson that is nowhere near as compelling & interesting as Evan Treborn was. And I think Ashton Kutchers performance in the first film is on a totally different scale & level in comparison to Eric Lively's performance. Also the original film really explored trauma, abuse & regret in a very powerful & effective way. In The Butterfly Effect 2 all of that is removed, which as a result makes this a very watered down and a hollow sequel. Another issue I have with it is that the lower budget compared to the original is noticeable in some scenes; especially when it comes to the visual effects and from a production standpoint The overall storytelling & twists are very predictable and not nearly as well done as the first film. Overall this isn't a good sequel it's very messy has no direction to it. It's a lot less memorable and totally pales in every aspect in comparison to the original film.
