Jedné bouřlivé noci vyloví italská rybářská loď z moře polomrtvého muže. V zádech má kulky a pod kůží štítek s číslem bankovního konta ve švýcarské bance. Víc nic. Když se mu konečně vrátí vědomí, nic svým zachráncům o sobě nedokáže povědět. Trpí naprostou ztrátou paměti. Postupně zjišťuje, že ovládá bojová umění, domluví se v několika jazycích a poradí si s každou zbraní. To signalizuje velice nebezpečnou minulost. Ale kdo a proč ho chtěl zabít, si vybavit nedokáže. V curyšské depozitní schránce nalezne hned několik cestovních dokladů, závratně vysokou hotovost, automatickou pistoli a jméno Jason Bourne s pařížskou adresou. I když o sobě stále nic neví, pochopí záhy, že lidé, kteří ho znají, usilují o jeho život. A tak Marii, první dívce, kterou potká, nabídne deset tisíc dolarů za cestu do Paříže. Teprve tady začíná skládat první kamínky do mozaiky své minulosti...

- James Saenz30. září 2025a lot of similarities between this and cruise’s original mission: impossible film regarding paranoia and a covert operative in a mission gone wrong, with the whole narrative focused less on big action set pieces and more on the intrigue of unraveling a mystery. i have a feeling the other installments will go bigger and bolder with the action much in the same way the mission: impossible series does, and there seems to a lot of groundwork established for the underlying world of spying that’s barely brushed on here.

Matt Damon is perfect here because he plays it surprisingly restrained, which makes the action hit even harder when it explodes. The fight scenes feel raw and messy in a good way, and that Paris car chase still rules. I also love how grounded everything feels compared to a lot of louder action movies from that era. If I had one small criticism, the romance subplot is a little thin, but honestly it barely matters when the rest works this well. Just ridiculously rewatchable.

The film keeps you hooked as much with its emotional weight as it does with its action. What’s most impressive is how The Bourne Identity still feels relevant. The car chases are tight, the fight scenes are raw, and the tension is constant. It’s a smart, slick thriller that set the tone for an entire generation of espionage films—including Bond’s grittier reboot. 4/5. A modern classic that hasn’t lost a step.

Great action and acting in this one from everyone makes this a hugely enjoyable movie to watch. I watched the old version from the 1980s and it's hard to think that it was the same story with how wooden it was.
