    Not usually a fan of these sorts of films, Sally Field single-handedly makes this worth the watch. What an amazing actress! The plot points are a bit too convenient, but if you suspend all disbelief (hey, there’s an octopus talking to us), it’s a good film.

    I’m old, and I’ve seen a lot of movies, so pay attention: This one ranks up there with the best STORIES I’ve seen told in a movie. I’m sick of explosions, super heroes, remakes, and gratuitous sex. This has none of that. Just a sweet story about two broken people, the perceptive octopus who recognized what they had in common, and how he brought them together. Definitely in my top 25 now, and over time it could creep into the top 10.

    Has its charm and lesson on communication and the importance of friendship. Fields did a nice job.

    It’s been a long time since I’ve watched a movie that had a feeling like this one. The emotion sure hits. Very good.

    This is one of those rare films that manages to be genuinely heartfelt without smothering you in sentimentality. It’s warm, sincere, and touching. It doesn’t try to milk tears out of you with manipulative contrivances or Hallmark‑grade schmaltz… It actually makes you feel things. Sally Field was particularly spectacular in this. I knew she was good, but didn’t realize just how good.
