Kde se dívat na Pan Majestyk
- Patrick Wai6. června 2026Bronson must have been working overtime in the 1970s, because somehow in the same year he gave us both Death Wish and Mr. Majestyk, and this one might actually be the more interesting movie. Thankfully there is no sexual-assault shortcut here. He is not really a vigilante, just a stubborn man trying to survive while everyone around him keeps escalating things. That alone makes the movie feel leaner and smarter than a lot of Bronson vehicles. The setup is simple, the story is straightforward, and yet it stayed engaging because I genuinely wanted to see how he was going to get out of the mess. Critics at the time were mixed, but even Roger Ebert gave Bronson real credit, calling him “a first-rate action star with a catlike grace and a nice air of menace,” which feels exactly right. What helps is the cast. Bronson is great, Al Lettieri is terrific as the gangster, Linda Cristal brings real presence, and even Paul Koslo surprised me by being very effective as the punk nuisance. The movie also does a better job than expected of showing the tough, precarious life around migrant farm work without turning it into a lecture. And for once the cops are not complete idiots. They are not geniuses either, but at least they seem to be playing the same sport as everyone else. Outside reviews often point to Elmore Leonard’s writing and Richard Fleischer’s direction as reasons this one feels sharper and more distinctive than the average Bronson thriller, and I think that’s exactly it. In the end, the strong silent type wins again, and I was perfectly happy to go along with it. Not flashy, not deep, just tight, tough, and very enjoyable. Probably top 10 Bronson for me.
