Kdybyste hledali toho nejvynalézavějšího Vikinga, skončili byste u Škyťáka. Na jeho rodném ostrově Blpu to ovšem není nijak vítaná vlastnost, prim hraje ten, kdo dokáže jakýmkoliv způsobem sejmout libovolného draka jako Škyťákův táta, vikinský náčelník Kliďas Velikán. Draci jsou totiž pro zdejší lidi odjakživa tím největším nepřítelem. Když však Škyťák šťastnou náhodou poraní exemplář mýtického a nepolapitelného příslušníka druhu Noční běs a začne ho lépe poznávat, pochopí, že nic nemusí trvat věčně. Ani dávná nepřátelství. Jenže jak o tom má mladík, považovaný spíš za outsidera, přesvědčit své soukmenovce, pro které pořád platí, že nejlepší drak je ten, kterého mají bezpečně pod zámkem?

- Lucy Paulina26. března 2026I gave it one star for sticking to the original story almost word for word. Thames, Butler, and Frost were all amazing and well cast. The rest, not so much. If you are going to literally copy an existing and already amazing movie, at least fit the cast to the original characters (like you did with the three mentioned).
- Joel11. června 2025Listen, we all know live action remakes are completely useless and as a whole are very creatively bankrupt productions. But if you’re going to do it, this is how. You give people the same very good story they like and add in some very minor changes. I think bringing back DeBlois to direct was 100% the right move. I think this captures most of the charm and wonder of the original, the music is obviously just as amazing. I really like the new cast and their takes on the characters. CGI on the dragons was great, and a very solid looking film overall. I still think if you’re gonna do this, just re animate the films with a new art style or type of animation. But there’s really nothing bad about this remake.

- Typical Nerd17. června 2025Outstanding Adaptation from the Animated film, no unnecessary filler or garbage added like what Disney does, it's just a 1:1 from the animated film, and it's been done really well and clearly with passion from the director and the rest of the production team behind it. This is one of the few films I think definitely deserves to have it's animated sequels given the same live action treatment as this is just amazing work. The transitions in IMAX are somewhat smoothed (slowly opening/closing) in and out for the aspect ratio, but some parts I would've thought would be in the IMAX aspect ratio weren't, but the shots that were in the IMAX aspect ratio definitely needed that to avoid cropping out toothless and huge chunks of the films detail. I really hope this gets a IMAX Home Release as that would put the cherry on top of what I think is just one of the best films I've seen in years. Review Update: The Home 4K Blu-Ray Release got the IMAX version and a bunch of extra special features, it was definitely worth the purchase and I'd highly recommend getting the IMAX version if you can.

And so compared to the original, it doesn't have any of that magic, the acting is a bit stiff, the voices in particular are not memorable and also the score is way ott and annoying during the action scenes. 2 out of 5.

This movie completely swept me into its world with its beautiful animation, heartfelt story, and emotional bond between a boy and a dragon. I knew it was a popular film, but I did not expect it to be this moving. From the very beginning, the movie creates a world full of energy, color, and excitement, yet it also finds quiet moments to explore courage, understanding, and what it means to see the world differently from everyone around you. It feels powerful in a simple and honest way. Hiccup is one of the most relatable animated characters I have seen. He is awkward, unsure of himself, and feels out of place in a world that values strength above everything else. What makes his story so meaningful is the way he grows, not by becoming someone else, but by learning to appreciate the strengths he already has. He does not fit the mold of a traditional hero, but he shows bravery through compassion rather than force. Watching him slowly gain confidence and discover his purpose feels emotional and inspiring. Toothless is a huge part of why the movie works so well. The design of the dragon is stunning. His eyes, expressions, and small movements make him feel alive and full of personality. The bond between him and Hiccup feels gentle and real. Their friendship builds slowly, through trust and curiosity rather than dialogue. The quiet scenes between them are some of the most powerful moments in the movie. There is something magical about watching two completely different beings find connection in a world that expects them to be enemies. The supporting characters add humor, conflict, and depth. Stoick, Hiccup’s father, brings a strong emotional layer to the story. His expectations and fears feel believable, and his relationship with Hiccup adds real weight to the film. Astrid is a great balance to Hiccup’s personality, and she adds determination and strength to the group. Even the comedic side characters help create a lively atmosphere that keeps the movie fun and entertaining. The animation is breathtaking. The landscapes are vast and detailed, and the flight sequences are some of the most stunning scenes I have seen in an animated movie. The way the camera moves during the flying scenes makes you feel like you are soaring right beside Hiccup and Toothless. The lighting, colors, and textures all work together to create a world that feels both fantastical and grounded. The music also deserves praise. The score brings emotion, adventure, and a sense of wonder to the story. Some of the musical moments hit so hard that they elevate the entire scene. The soundtrack captures the spirit of discovery, bonding, and bravery in a way that stays with you long after the movie ends. The themes of the movie are powerful. It explores understanding, empathy, breaking traditions, and finding your own path. It shows how fear can divide people and how compassion can change everything. The message feels hopeful and uplifting without ever feeling forced. By the time the movie ended, I felt inspired, emotional, and completely in love with the bond between Hiccup and Toothless. How to Train Your Dragon is beautifully animated, meaningful, and full of heart. It completely earned its 4.5 out of 5 rating from me.
