Religious horror, Filipino representation, greek setting coalesce into a pretty impressive little film.  It follows two filipino sisters living in Athens with one sister becoming pregnant and the other sister with a sort of abnormal affliction that begins to happen with her occasionally. Dialogue fluctuates between Greek, Tagalog, and English at times depending on who the sisters are talking with. Though, I use the term horror, it’s not really. It has some supernatural elements, but it’s not really scary by any stretch. I’m predisposed to like religious “horror” (more specifically Catholic horror) plus I’m half filipino and always like seeing more filipino representation (but had zero interest in checking out Easter Sunday despite being a Jo Koy fan. 😬😬.) Add in that I just got back from Greece, and Holy Emy may be a film that hit my particular tastes in just the right way. It reminded me a bit of The Innocents (though not nearly as dark or demented as that film), but also a bit like Saint Maud.
