Clint Eastwood as Walt is just perfect — he's a pretty rough and unpleasant guy at first, but somehow you end up really caring about him. His relationship with Thao and Sue is the heart of the movie, and watching Walt slowly let his guard down is easily the best part. It's funny, uncomfortable, surprisingly sweet and then genuinely heartbreaking when it needs to be. The story itself isn't anything complicated, but the characters make it work so well. Eastwood gets that mix of humor and serious drama just right, and that ending really sticks with you. Great movie.

If it doesn't teach you to respect your elders and the sacrifice they made for your freedom even at the cost of their souls, then you learnt nothing. Also, redemption comes for you if you believe enough in it.
- tellum27. června 2026This was always a strange movie to me because the subtext is that it’s beneficial to “act white” in order to gain direction and purpose. I think the overall message of young people needing mentors and positive influences is good, it’s just presented in a weird way where people using slurs is considered normal.

Film vypráví příběh neústupného válečného veterána Walta Kowalského, který si s přibývajícím věkem uvědomuje, že na nový svět už nestačí. Musí se konfrontovat jak se sousedy rozličného etnického původu, tak se svými hluboce zakořeněnými předsudky. Všechny staré sousedy postupně nahradili imigranti, kterými Walt ze srdce pohrdá. Podzim svého života tak spíš přežívá, než dožívá. Až do oné noci, kdy se mu někdo pokusí ukrást jeho chloubu – nablýskaný sporťák Gran Torino. Elegantní tvary auta zapůsobí na Waltova neprůbojného souseda Thaa, který si krádeží snaží získat respekt v partě mladých výtržníků. Thaova rodina trvá na tom, aby si chlapec u Walta svůj nerozvážný čin odpracoval. Walt nakonec podlehne a vyzve mladíka k tomu, aby své aktivity nasměroval ve prospěch okolí. Díky Thaovi a jeho dobrosrdečné rodině Walt prozří a snad poprvé v životě se na své sousedy dívá bez předsudků. Veterán postupně odkryje i tu část duše, kterou skrývá již od války.
